Demolition for 3423 N. Southport Avenue Approved

The city has approved the demolition of the former Candyality and Coobah buildings.  Look for L3 to tear them down in the immediate future.  No word yet on tenants but below is the listing brochure by Cushman and Wakefield (although rumor on the street is that J. Crew will finally find a home on Southport here).

And here is what is coming:

Southport's Rise Sushi and Galleria Liquors could be replaced by a TOD

From Tom Tunney's office, there has been a proposal for the Rise Sushi and Galleria Liquors location to build a new mixed-used Transit Oriented Development (TOD).  The proposal would include 30 apartments with ground-level retail next to the Southport "L" line.
Per the developer, "It is important to note that NONE of our residents will have the ability to secure a 383 Parking permit. Therefore, since this is a transit-oriented development, residents except for the 7 units that will have access to parking spaces will not own a car. This development will not cause residents to park within the neighborhood since they will not be able to secure the required parking permit."
The Lakeview Chamber of Commerce agrees with building this development as it would help local businesses and the local economy (more people in a dense urban area = more local dollars being spent). You can read more about the benefits of TODs here.

A meeting with the developers will take place at Mystic Celt during the West Lakeview Neighbors meeting on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 7pm. Detailed information can be found here.

Lole activewear coming to 3434 N. Southport

Lole Activewear is coming to 3434 N Southport Avenue according to Crains Chicago Business.

"Women's activewear shop leases on Southport Avenue
Lole, a Canadian chain that sells women's activewear, is opening a store in a former bank branch in Lakeview. David Zimmer, a Lole franchisee who will operate the store, has leased the 1,400-square-foot space at 3434 N. Southport Ave. for the store, a spokeswoman for Zimmer confirmed. The Southport Avenue property is a retail condominium owned by Chicago real estate investment firm L3 Capital. An L3 executive couldn't be reached. Zimmer is not involved in the Lole store coming to Walton Street in the Gold Coast. Luke Molloy and Danny Jacobson, senior directors in the local office of Cushman & Wakefield, represented L3 in the Southport lease, while Joseph Sauer, partner at Sierra U.S. Commercial Real Estate, represented Zimmer."

The Butcher's Tap is now open, and here is a look at their new menu

The Butcher's Tap is now open, and here is a look at their new menu.  Think it will do better on Southport then Messner's/WheelHouse Wrigley did?
"The new bar is now open and called The Butcher's Tap, a nod to the butcher shop that opened in 1932 at the same location at 3553 N. Southport Ave. Ownership said they've completed 95 percent of the interior renovation which is expected to be complete in early December. Workers gutted the Wheel House space, which opened in 2012 after replacing Messner's Bar and Grill. Ownership lauded changes including rolling glass garage door windows and a new audio and video system and 25 televisions."
More information on The Butcher's Tap can be read here from Eater Chicago.

Lulu Belle's Pancake House Closed "For Remodeling"

Have we lost another business this week?  LuluBelle's Pancake house is covered up with paper and there is no answer by phone.  Their Franklin Park location is owned separately and confirmed that they have officially closed down.  Right now there is sign saying "Closed for Remodeling" so we'll see if it reopens.

Update on November 13: Lulu Belle's is officially closed per their Franklin Park location.

Target Express now coming to Belmont, Lincoln and Ashland

Today from Crain's Chicago Business, Target is making it's way back to Belmont, Lincoln and
Ashland after originally cancelling the new store and selling the land.

"Target Corp. has zeroed in on sites in Lakeview and Steeterville for its new small-format stores, part of a broader effort around the country to squeeze shops into densely populated urban areas.
Minneapolis-based Target plans to open TargetExpress stores at the northeast corner of Ashland and Belmont avenues in Lakeview and in the former Fox & Obel grocery at the southeast corner of Illinois Street and McClurg Court in Streeterville, said people familiar with Target's plans.
The Lakeview store may span as many as 30,000 square feet, according to a person familiar with the parcel, while the former Fox & Obel space covers about 24,000 square feet."
