Southport Avenue Water Main construction now lasting until the end of June, 2017

It was originally supposed to be completed in early May, but now, water main and road pavement construction on Southport between Belmont and Addison will last until the the end of June.  Full details from Tom Tunney's website can be found here, (and don't get your car stuck in the cement as seen below).

  1. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: How could they be so wrong in mis-underestimating the time to completion (to paraphrase GWB? We've had record good construction season weather. Did Dick Cheney write the specs? Did Colin Powell bid the job? Did Donald Rumsfeld hire the union workers? This smacks of governmental incompetence. But wait, I'm in Chicago, not Washington DC.

  2. I feel very sorry for the businesses along Southport, right at the best time of the year. I walk past this stretch every day and it's utterly incompetent construction work. It's not a difficult job and they're often not working, leaving potholes, gravel and dust everywhere. They should be fined for every day over initial projections, I'd bet they'd have it wrapped up quickly.
